What is UMAT?

UMAT is the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test. It is the entrance test you have to give before applying to the undergraduate medical courses at most Universities in Australia and New Zealand.

Who conducts UMAT?

UMAT is conducted by ACER on behalf of the UMAT Consortium Ltd, a conjunction of some of the most prestigious Universities in Australia and New Zealand that use UMAT scores in their selection process for undergraduate medicine and health science related courses.

What is the UMAT Test like?

UMAT is an ‘aptitude test’. The test duration is 2 ½ hrs. There is no predefined syllabus. You do not need to have a prior knowledge of any particular subject. There are three sections in the UMAT test that assess verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills. You will need good analytical skills to answer the MCQs in Section I & II and solve questions in Section III. Work at your reading and comprehension skills and you will be able to handle UMAT.

When is the UMAT held?

UMAT is held on the 29th of July every year.

How do I register for UMAT?

Register online for UMAT and sit for it at a test centre in your vicinity. To register for UMAT, log onto: http://umat.acer.edu.au.

I am not from UK. Can I still sit for UMAT?

Yes, international students can appear for the UMAT.

What is the pass mark for UMAT?

Individual Universities have their own cut-off scores and selection criteria.

How much does sitting for UMAT cost?

The UMAT registration fee is $160 (Australian dollars only) for students from Australia and New Zealand. The rest will have to pay an additional AU$165 as taxes.

I have not performed well in my first attempt. Can I re-sit the UMAT?

Yes, you can sit for UMAT more than once. You can then use your best UMAT score for applying to the individual Universities in Australia and New Zealand.

When will I know my UMAT results?

ACER declares the UMAT results on their official UMAT site in late September.
